Savita Supnekar

She is a fortunate for being a part of a family which has a highly musical background. She started learning violin at an early age. She took her initial lessons from well known violin teacher Pt. Madhukarrao Godse who is the founder of “Godse Violin Vidyalaya” which is one of the oldest violin school in the cultural capital at Maharashtra, Pune. Under the guidance of Godse Sir, Savita completed “Sangeet Alankar” from Gandharva Mahavidyalay Mandal.

Now Savita is learing this prestigious art under the guidance of an international artist (violinist) and renowed teacher Pt. Atulkumar Upadhye who is founder of “Violin Academy” Pune. She learnt fine intricacies, techniques and nuances from Upadhye sir. This school of music is having rich tradition of Pt. Bhaskarbua Bakhale, Pt. Shridhar Parsekar & Dr. Yehudi Menuhin.

Savita is recognised artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. She has given many solo performances in prestigious music festivals and given no. of recordings to film and television institute of India. Savita has to her credit many awards and accolades. The noted ones like “All India P & T Cultural Meet” held in Bombay and “Mahalaxmi-Vishwanathan Memorial Trust” at Aurangabad. In her teenage she got “Gunawant Yuva Kalakar Puraskar” at the hands of Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. Savita was selected on State Level for the National Competition of AIR Savita is a versatile soloist and her playing reveals both depth and range. Her expositions on her delicate instrument reveals a clear, melodic line and style. Her style is a unique combination of Gayaki and tantakari techniques. Which has helped in establishing violin as a complete instrument for solo performance in rich Indian Classical Music.

She has played Jugal Bandi along with other instruments such asFlute, Shehnai, dilruba and Violin. Savita has equal command on classical and Light Classical Music. She has released CD’s of classical and old famous marathi and hindi songs.Savita is fortunate to born in a family which has rich musical background. Her mother was known as vocalist and harmonium player. Her two sisters are well known vocalist and brother is senior tabla player in Currently Savita heads “Swarashree Violin Vidyalaya” & become a well known teacher too. Savita’s son Ketan is merit rank holder in 10th and Pune University topper throughout. He did his graduation from PICT (ENTC) and then completed his masters from UCSD (University of California - San Diego) and currently he is working as a Software Engineer in Boston. Savita’s husband is Ex-cummins-executive and supporting her musical career whole heartedly.Considering her talent in art of violin playing one can observe Savita presenting Indian Classical Music through violin with proper anticipation, elaboration and realisation of release.Also we can look forward to listen many melodious renditions from this promising rising star in musical world.
